Areas of Wiltshire

The county of Wiltshire covers a large area from Swindon in the north east down to Mere in the south west. It’s bordered by Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Dorset and Berkshire and is approximately 90 minutes’ drive from London.

Predominantly a rural county, Wiltshire is home to three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: The Cotswolds, the North Wessex Downs and the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs and a small area of the New Forest National Park.

Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site

Wiltshire is home to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Avebury and Stonehenge and people come from across the world to discover Wiltshire’s mysteries and learn more about these historic sites.

Friendly, relaxed and welcoming, each of Wiltshire’s historic towns and villages has something unique to offer, whether it be stylish independent shops and colourful markets, tempting pubs and restaurants, fascinating history and heritage, or great entertainment. Wiltshire’s great outdoors

With ample walking routes, cycling opportunities and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to explore, Wiltshire is an ideal county to visit if you love the great outdoors.

The Kennet & Avon Canal crosses the heart of the county and passes through Pewsey, Devizes, Bradford on Avon as well as a number of smaller villages. Not only does the canal offer water based activities from canal boat holidays through to kayaking but lots of people enjoy walking or cycling along the tow path of the canal.
