As impressive as Oxford city is, step outside and you will discover a host of things to do in Oxfordshire.

Particularly enchanting are the Cotswolds, where village after village of Cotswold stone houses charm each and every visitor who passes through. Oxfordshire's Blenheim Palace was Winston Churchill's birthplace (and yet another location for the film adaptations of JK Rowling's famous books), and Sulgrave Manor was the ancestral home of another great leader, George Washington. Other remarkable historic houses include Kingston Bagpuize House near Abingdon, Mapledurham House on the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border and the romantic Broughton Castle, still surrounded by a moat.
In the north of Oxfordshire the lush and fertile Cherwell Valley is centred on the lovely town of Banbury, where you can really see a fine lady upon a white horse - or a statue of her, anyway. It's just one of the bustling market towns that punctuate a journey through Oxfordshire.
